The Charles Mingus Tribute by Mack Leighton honors one of jazz’s most fearless innovators— a composer, bassist, and bandleader who refused to color inside the lines. He fused together hard bop, blues, gospel, classical and raw emotion. His compositions were passionate, political, playful, and uncompromising— music that demanded presence, honesty, and soul.
