SUMMARY:A Queer Arcana: Art\, Magic\, and Spirit
DESCRIPTION:A Queer Arcana: Art\, Magic\, and Spirit brings together an intergenerational group of artists who explore how magic\, spirituality\, and esoteric knowledge have shaped queer art and culture in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. \n\n\n\nDrawing on the meaning of arcana—hidden and mystical knowledge—the exhibition considers how queer artists have turned to obscure spiritual practices as sources of connection and transformation. These artists engage magic as a way to envision worlds beyond repressive systems\, reclaim sexuality as a sacred power\, and build community. \n\n\n\nThe works on view reflect a wide range of spiritual traditions and practices\, including Western occultism\, witchcraft and goddess worship\, Christian mysticism\, New Age beliefs influenced by Eastern philosophies\, and shamanic traditions rooted in Indigenous knowledge. Many artists explore and combine diverse traditions\, constructing through their work idiosyncratic and intricate worlds. \n\n\n\nAs articulated by the queer Chicana poet and theorist Gloria Anzaldúa\, “spirituality is a source of sustenance\, a way of knowing\, a path of survival.” A Queer Arcana highlights how magical and alternative spiritual practices have been ever-present within queer culture and LGBTQ+ struggles for liberation\, even when their significance has been obscured from dominant historical accounts. \n\n\n\nThe Palm Springs Art Museum main location is open Sunday\, Friday\, and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.\, and Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. The museum is closed on Mondays\, Tuesdays\, and Wednesdays. Admission is free on Thursday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. \n\n\n\nExhibit runs March 28\, 2026 – October 18\, 2026

SUMMARY:Live! Laugh! Lust! Positively Aging Project Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Positively Aging Project Conference returns on September 19 with a full day dedicated to wellness\, connection\, and community for people aging with HIV and those who support them. The event begins at 9 am with registration and a complimentary continental breakfast\, followed by a robust program from 10 am to 3 pm—including a free lunch for all attendees. Throughout the day\, guests can explore community resource tables featuring health care providers\, nonprofit organizations\, advocacy groups\, and support services from across the Coachella Valley. \n\n\n\nThis year’s theme\, Live! Laugh! Lust!\, is reflected in three nationally recognized keynote speakers whose personal and professional journeys illuminate the power of joy\, authenticity\, and resilience. HIV activist and author Mark S. King will speak on thriving beyond diagnosis and embracing the opportunities of aging with HIV. Comedian and storyteller Shann Carr will highlight laughter as a vital source of strength in the LGBTQ+ community while honoring the profound role lesbians played during the AIDS epidemic. And Nina Grace Ruedas\, MPH\, MS\, LMFT\, will explore intimacy\, relationships\, self‑acceptance\, and defining connection on one’s own terms—free from stigma or expectation. \n\n\n\nA core mission of the Positively Aging Project is demonstrating what becomes possible when health care providers\, advocates\, researchers\, and people with lived experience come together with shared purpose. As HARP co‑executive director Steven Drew Auerbach notes\, “Healthy aging isn’t just about adding years to life—it’s about filling those years with purpose\, connection\, laughter and hope.” \n\n\n\nThis free community conference invites attendees to learn\, engage\, and celebrate the many ways joy and wellness shape the aging journey.
